Here at Rothschild Safaris we LOVE Morocco! Our team has travelled extensively across Morocco and one of our travel designers even lived there for many years. Needless to say, we know Morocco.

The bustling, colourful city of Marrakech is a must on any Morocco itinerary. Red-baked mud medina palaces beneath the snow-capped High Atlas, Morocco’s second oldest imperial city retains the splendour of its ancient past. From the remarkable Bahia Palace that dates to the days of the harem, the Koutoubia Mosque that dominates the landscape of the 9th century walled medina, to the spice-filled air of the bustling souk, unchanged for over 1000 years, and the legendary square, Djemaa el Fna, a UNESCO World Heritage site that hums and pulsates day and night with mystery and magic.

There is a lot happening right now in Marrakech, particularly when it comes to hotels. Here are our favourite hotels in Marrakech, both new and old!

Amanjena

This property is a lovely option if you want to stay outside of the city centre. Here you’ll find peace and serenity, between the rooms, the pool and the amazing spa and hammam area.

Here colours and textures reflect the beautiful olive groves, fruit trees, Berber villages, and the Atlas Mountains that surround the property.
Each room with its own private pavilion features high domes, wood-burning sunken fires, terraces with gazebos, and lantern-lit seating areas. Some even have private pools.

The main restaurant specializes in Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine that is served outdoors during the summer months. We love their unforgettable dining experience, called the Amanjena Tent Experience, where you can feast on ancient Moroccan cuisine while enjoying entertainment by local dancers and musicians.

La Maison Arabe

Ideally situated right in the medina, the hotel (which opened in 1946!) includes lovely rooms and suites, most with private terraces and fireplaces, and a world-famous cooking school (open to guests staying at the hotel or elsewhere in town) as well as a new spa including a traditional hammer.

Here you can relax at either the heated pool in the hotel’s garden patio, or at the pool located at the spectacular Country Club, located 15 minutes away by complimentary shuttle.

La Sultana

La Sultana is a beautiful boutique property located in the old city just a stone’s throw from the main attractions, ten minutes walk from Jemaa El Fna square.

The restaurant on property is a great option for traditional Moroccan cuisine, serving up dishes like Lamb Couscous with Seven Vegetables or the Home Made Duck Foie Gras (cooking classes available here too!).

Hotel Naoura Barriere

With lovely standard rooms as well as larger, multi-bedroom suites, we love the accommodations but also the amazing pool and common areas, including gardens. Hotel Naoura Barriere is a great option if traveling with children.
